Dear________,
I am writing to encourage you to support any upcoming legislation that would help to expedite the discovery of a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. We in the ALS community are encouraged by the Bush Administration's decision to move forward with limited Stem Cell research. We strongly believe that federal funding of Stem Cell research represents the most effective and ethical way of proceeding with this promising area of science. But we also believe that limiting the research to existing cell lines severely encumbers the research possibilities and delays the promise of a cure for ALS and many other disorders. Allowing this area of science to move forward within appropriate ethical guidelines and oversight from the National Institutes of Health affords the best opportunities for meaningful research to progress. The lives of countless Americans suffering from ALS, MS, diabetes, cancer, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, paralysis, and heart disease could be saved. I ask you and your associates in Washington to do two things. Allocate more federal funding to Stem Cell and neuro-muscular disease research. And pass legislation that lifts the current constraints on Stem Cell research. On behalf of all that suffer from disease, and all that love and support them, we thank you for your efforts.
With Sincere Appreciation and Thanks,
